Breaking the Cycles of Fatherlessness & Poverty
Our Vision
Our Vision
To provide the underserved youth with equitable opportunities for social justice.
To provide the underserved youth with equitable opportunities for social justice.
The Size Of a Man believes that the devoted efforts of its staff and mentors will aid in the betterment of the Greater Waco communities and ultimately improve the communities throughout McLennan County and the entire Central Texas Region.
We envision the underserved youth in our communities receiving equitable opportunities for social justice.
Our hope is that such access will empower our young kings and queens:
- To overcome the trauma associated with fatherlessness AND poverty.
- To discover a healthy sense of self-worth and value.
Consider, for a moment, how the crime rate is increasing at an alarming rate.
Consider how the places that were at one time regarded as the safest places to be, but are now being used as public expressions of hurt, confusion, frustration, and hopelessness as the shooter shoots up the schools, churches, and concerts.
Consider how the opioid epidemic has swept the country, yet it is not the greatest threat to the family dynamic.
Consider the number of teen pregnancies or the number of teen suicides, still, this is not the greatest threat to the family dynamic.
What about the high school dropout rate? Have you considered it?
Don't forget about the high volume of incarcerations in the U.S.
Even for those households, who are fortunate enough to have two married parents, this doesn't guarantee that the family dynamic is in the clear and not at risk of being threatened.
Why not? Because the greatest threat to the family dynamic is "Fatherlessness."
Even with the father (or a father figure) being physically present in the home, this does not mean that he is emotionally, psychologically or spiritually present with his family.
This is The PROBLEM!

To break the cycles of fatherlessness and poverty

In 2013, U.S. Marine, Darryl W. Thomas, Jr., founded The Size Of a Man in Austin, TX to BREAK the cycles of FATHERLESSNESS & POVERTY through mentorship.
In 2018, the organization's scope evolved to dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline. We discovered the residual effects of fatherlessness and poverty on our youth's education. That coupled with certain policies such as zero tolerance has put our young men and women at a grave disadvantage.
Consequently, our services include mentorship and character education in the schools and leadership development in the community with an emphasis on fatherhood empowerment.
